Training Classes


Core Classes


HD Camera

Students will learn Sony HD Cameras and tripods. Expendable equipment (i.e. tape, batteries, etc.) will be provided. They will also learn basic lighting and sound. Completion of this 3-hour course results in a certification to reserve the HD Cameras, tripods, mics and clip lights.    (Class Schedule Coming Soon!)

 

Video Editing

Students will learn how to edit on Apple’s Final Cut Pro X. The instructor will take them through making a new project and event, importing footage, trimming clips, basic editing and sharing your video. Completion of this 3-hour course results in a certification to reserve the editing computers at PAPA(Class Schedule Coming Soon!)

 

Advanced Lighting and Sound

Students will learn the light kits, portable audio mixers, and some of the more advanced features of the HD cameras. Class will have hands on experience setting up a 3 point lighting set up. Completion of this 3-hour course results in certification to reserve the lighting kit and portable audio mixers.  (Class Schedule Coming Soon!)

 

Advanced Editing

Students will learn some of the more advanced features of Final Cut Pro X. The instructor will take them through manipulating video in the inspector window, adding text, video and audio filters, transitions and other advanced features. Completion of this 3 hour course results in a certification to reserve the laptops.  (Class Schedule Coming Soon!)

 

Studio Class

Students will learn how to use the lights on the grid, studio cameras, and audio gear. The instructor will teach them camera composition, lighting for television and studio mics. Completion of this 3-hour course will result in a certification to use Studio A. (Class Schedule Coming Soon!)

 

Control Room Class

Students will learn the switcher, audio board, tape decks and graphics computer. The instructor will take them through directing, CG operations, tape operations and audio board. Completion of this 3-hour course will result in a certification to use Control Room A.  (Class Schedule Coming Soon!)

 

Advanced Studio Class

Students will learn lighting the green screen, teleprompter and how to connect a computer feed to the switcher. The instructor will demonstrate how to use the wireless mics, accept a phone call through the audio board, how to direct, how to build graphics on the CG and how to run the teleprompter. Completion of this 3-hour course will result in a certification to use the teleprompter and wireless mics.  (Class Schedule Coming Soon!)

 

 

Production Courses


Documentary Production

This course begins with an introductory pre-production class. The class will then embark as a group on the production of a documentary. There will be other classes and coursework scheduled by the group and then the group will assemble together once again to watch the finished production.

This course is designed with an emphasis on effective preparation, camera theory and aesthetics, as well as genre-specific approaches to documentary filmmaking. The class includes a pre-production clinic, multimedia examples of each method, and an open discussion on the genre. Before the end of class, students will form production teams and decide on the topic and approach of their choosing. (Class Schedule Coming Soon!)

 

Narrative Fiction

This course begins with an introductory pre-production class. The class will then embark as a group on the production of a short film. There will be other class sessions and coursework scheduled by the group and then the group will assemble together once again to watch the finished production.

The class is designed to teach producers how to conceptualize and create a story based video. In other words, learn how to make your own movies. The class will study effective techniques for coming up with interesting stories, planning how to shoot the video, how to find a crew, how to film and edit the video, and what to do with it once it’s done. The students will work together on a collaborative movie project, or strike out on their own and create a short video of their own design.(Class Schedule Coming Soon!)

 

Short Subject / New Media

This course begins with an introductory pre-production class. The class will then embark as a group on the production of a short subject video. There will be other class sessions and coursework scheduled by the group and then the group will assemble together once again to watch the finished production.

This course consists of pre-production tools and hands-on skills in the making of PSAs, teasers and promos, followed by the creation of a short subject video, either individually or in groups. Other class sessions and coursework focus on editing and assembly of the finished work(s).  (Class Schedule Coming Soon!)

 

Music Video & Poetry Media

This course begins with an introductory pre-production class. The class will then embark as a group on the production of a video revolving around a song or poetry narrative. There will be other class sessions and coursework scheduled by the group and then the group will assemble together once again to watch the finished production.

Blending the elegance and passion of music with the visually stimulating elements of filmmaking. Now is the time to visually represent your creative work. This class will study the elements of pre-existing music in media, and will attempt to reshape and redefine the essence of popular platform.  (Class Schedule Coming Soon!)
